Some students protesting against the change in the status of Delhi College of Engineering sustained minor injuries when the police used mild force to prevent them from marching towards the residence of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday.
A large number of students, including girls, gathered on Janpath in the evening and marched towards the All-India Congress Committee headquarter on Akbar Road carrying placards protesting against the conversion of Delhi College of Engineering into Delhi Technological University. Trouble broke out when some of the students allegedly tried to jump the barricades and reach 10 Janpath. The police used mild force causing minor injuries to some students.
One of the protesters claimed that the police resorted to lathi-charge injuring several students. “We were holding a peaceful demonstration outside the AICC headquarter in the evening when the police suddenly resorted to lathi-charge. Several students, including girls, were injured and taken to hospital. One of the students sustained head injuries and was taken to Maulana Azad Medical College,” said the student on condition of anonymity. The police, however, denied the allegations.

Twenty students were detained and later released.
