Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday said steps have been taken to provide compensation to those affected by development works in the run up to the Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Delhi.
“People whose houses or shops were demolished to facilitate the Commonwealth Games project will be compensated soon. I have asked (PWD Minister Raj Kumar) Chauhan to direct the DDA to distribute the compensation amount within a week,” she said at a function near Azadpur flyover here.
Mr. Chauhan said the government has completed 14 of the 24 CWG-related projects and is well on course to meet the deadline with respect to the remaining development programmes.

Noting that the total cost of the flyover project worked out to be 20 to 30 per cent less than the estimated amount, the first such instance, the Chief Minister lauded the engineers and those associated with the work.
“The design of flyovers in Delhi is the unique concept of PWD engineers. You cannot see such type of flyovers even in foreign countries...,” she said.
Terming the Commonwealth Games as an opportunity to fast track development in the capital city, Ms. Dikshit said her government is working hard to improve the life of citizens.

“It is for everyone to see.... Be it education, infrastructure, metro facility...in every sector we have tried to provide maximum benefits to you. The development projects will change the history of Delhi,” she noted.
Earlier, Mr. Chauhan said Delhi perhaps is the only city where 24 development projects have been taken up simultaneously. “We have completed 14 projects. The work on the remaining 10 projects is progressing satisfactorily.”
The flyover at Azadpur, Asia’s biggest vegetable market, was completed and opened to traffic towards last year end. The grade separator, which was inaugurated today, provides signal free traffic movement and eases congestion.
Traffic entering the city from northern States like Punjab and Haryana passes through the four-level Azadpur intersection, a first of its kind in Delhi.
