Barapullah project to be completed soon

September 06, 2010 11:50 am | Updated 11:50 am IST - NEW DELHI:

With the launching of the last segment of the crucial Barapullah elevated road corridor on Saturday, the project that missed a string of deadlines is expected to be complete by September 15.

According to Public Works Department project manager Sarvagya Srivastava, the corridor would be opened for trial runs after September 15. Earlier, the date for trials had been tentatively set for September 5.

“Due to incessant rain during the past four days we were unable to carry out the segment launch. We finally managed to complete it on Saturday using a crane. The only thing remaining now is stressing or the joining of the segments on the stretch between the railway line crossing and Mathura Road.”

The corridor's completion holds paramount importance in view of the Commonwealth Games as it is the only route marked for transporting athletes and players between the Games Village and the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. All related transport plans hinge on it, the PWD officials said.

Mr. Srivastava said: “After stressing is complete, the corridor would be able to handle vehicle load. We will then begin finishing works including black topping of the road. We expect it to be completed by September 15,” he added.

The trial runs will be restricted only for the players.
