BJP holds ‘Justice for Soni’ marches at 300 markets

The Delhi BJP on Friday took out ‘Justice for Soni’ marches in close to 300 markets across the Capital to demand action against those accused of allegedly abetting the 28-year-old Aam Aadmi Party worker’s suicide.

Unit president Satish Upadhyay said it was “quite surprising” that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made “any minor incident occurring in any corner of Delhi a sensitive incident and politicises it” but was “silent on the suicide of a woman volunteer of his own party”.

The AAP government has ordered a magisterial probe in the death of AAP activist, Soni, who resided in outer Delhi’s Narela area with her two daughters and other family members.

Ms. Soni filed a police complaint on June 2 against her party colleague Ramesh Wadhwa for harassing her.

In her police complaint, Ms. Soni alleged that Wadhwa harassed her several times and asked for sexual favours. She also said that she had raised the matter in the party but no action was taken against Mr. Wadhwa.

Held under the leadership of district presidents, the party said that candle marches were organised at Kanhaiya Nagar Metro Station, Ghanta Ghar Chowk, Khajuri Chowk, the GTB Hospital Chowk, V3S Mall, Pandav Nagar, Shadipur intersection, Sewa Nagar Chowk, the Jalebi Chowk Sultanpuri, Vishal Cinema Chowk, Vikaspuri DG-2, Mehrauli Main Market, Rithala Metro Station and Kalkaji.

“The BJP will campaign to expose before the people the harassment of innocent persons and even compelling them to commit suicide by the ruling party,” Mr. Upadhyay said.
