She allegedly defied Jagbir and purchased a smartphone nearly a fortnight ago. While he wanted to keep her away from smartphones, it was her instant liking towards Facebook and WhatsApp that reportedly left him furious.
Investigators said Anita created Facebook and WhatsApp accounts soon after buying the phone, and started spending a lot of time on social media.Suspicion
However, Jagbir viewed her presence on social media with suspicion and told her to delete the accounts. Anita refused to do so and that led to frequent quarrels between them, said DCP (South-West) Surender Kumar.

“While leaving for his hometown on Wednesday, Jagbir told Anita to stop using social media. When he returned home on Friday morning, he found her using Facebook and WhatsApp,” said Mr. Kumar.
This led to a heated exchange between the couple, with Jagbir taking out his licensed pistol and repeatedly shooting Anita at a close range.
He then shot himself in the head. Neighbours rushed in after hearing the gunshots and took the couple to a hospital, but they were declared brought dead.
Conflict
The police learnt about the conflict over social media from Anita’s parents, as the victim had been keeping them updated them about her problems with Jagbir. The police have registered a murder case and further investigations are on.
