The condition of all the five persons exposed to radiation in Mayapuri and now under treatment at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital and the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences is said to be serious.
A statement by Apollo Hospital on Friday said: “Deepak Jain continues to be serious. His bone marrow is significantly suppressed and he is currently in the Intensive Care Unit with a multi-disciplinary team of doctors monitoring his progress. The hospital has been in constant touch with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and the patient is being managed in consultation with them.”
The four other patients admitted to DDU Hospital on Thursday were shifted to All-India Institute of Medical Sciences on Friday after the condition of two of them took a turn for the worse with a sudden drop in their platelet count.

“We had to shift the four patients to AIIMS as they needed specialised treatment. They have been admitted to Unit 2 of the Medicine Department and are being treated for low platelet count. They are displaying symptoms similar to that of Deepak Jain,'' said Delhi Health Minister Dr. Kiran Walia.
Dr. Walia said the patients told her that the metal scrap had come in during the last week of March and that they had been working on it ever since.
“The workers said that after they started working on the scrap, separating and dismantling it, their health began to deteriorate. Initially they felt weak and exhausted and after a week they had burns marks and hair loss. It was then that they decided to get admitted to a hospital. Doctors at DDU were managing the patients well, but we decided it was best to treat them at AIIMS as the doctors there are trained to handle such patients,” the Minister added.

One more person, Himanshu Jain, was admitted to AIIMS with symptoms of exposure to radiation on Friday.
