Former Union Minister and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) MP E. Ahamed passed away early Wednesday morning in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML) after he suffered a cardiac arrest on Tuesday.
The hospital administration says that the staff worked all night to ensure the best care was provided to the patient. He was shifted to a life support system only after he became very critical.
The 78-year-old Ahamed died at 2:15 a.m. at RML Hospital.

The clarification comes in following allegations by the leader's family that they were not allowed to meet the leader. The family also claimed that RML doctors wanted to do ECMO procedures so that he can be sustained on artificial means, which wasn’t discussed with his family.
"The hospital staff ensured top-class healthcare to the patient. His well-being alone was our primary focus and there has been no compromise on that," said a RML official.
"The leader was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday and his condition was very critical. He was later shifted to the RML trauma centre’s ICU where he was put on ventilator and breathed his last. He passed away at 2:15 a.m., Wednesday. His body has been taken to AIIMS hospital for embalming. As for allegations about care and consent for shifting him to the ventilator, everything was done as per protocol for ensuring patient's well-being," added a senior RML official.

The MP, who represents Malappuram constituency in Kerala, was rushed to the hospital after he suffered a cardiac arrest during President Pranab Mukherjee's address to the joint sitting of Parliament in the central hall on Tuesday. Ahamed’s body will be taken to Kerala later today.
Meanwhile, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi and senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had rushed to the hospital late Tuesday night and met Ahamed’s family.
