March 20, 2010 04:12 pm | Updated 04:14 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Warner Bros. Pictures in association with Legendary Pictures is releasing the much-awaited Clash of the Titans with 800 prints across 850 cinema screens across India on April 2.

The film, directed by French film-maker Louis Leterrier, will be the widest release of a Hollywood movie in India. To penetrate the regional markets, it is being released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu as well.

Clash of the Titans boasts an international cast. Australian actor Sam Worthington of Avatar fame is playing Perseus, the mortal son of Zeus, the king of gods. Oscar Award nominee Liam Neeson, who was applauded for his role in Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List , takes on the role of the mighty Zeus. Another Oscar nominee, Ralph Fiennes ( The English Patient ) plays Hades, god of the underworld who feeds on human fear.

Louis Leterrier says, “I want the film to be an epic, with big wide shots, real locations, sunsets, clouds, mountains and fire. It is a big fun adventure, a big escapist movie, and I love escapist movies. The story is heroic, it is mythic, it is romantic, and it is about fulfilling your destiny. There is fantasy and fun, and it is a bit scary too. Add to that the fact that there is an unbelievable cast and it was truly an exhilarating experience.”

With mythical beasts, breathtaking vistas spanning the depths of hell to the heights of Mount Olympus and battles to the death between man and the gods, the film is a spectacle that will take audiences on a wild 3-D ride through ancient Greece.

In the film the struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war among the gods themselves could annihilate the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus is helpless to save his family from Hades, the vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus decides to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus and unleash hell on Earth.

To achieve his objective, Perseus sets off on a journey that is fraught with danger at every step. He leads a daring band of warriors into the forbidden world. One of his experienced soldiers Draco coaxes Perseus to make use of his God-given abilities.
