Complaint filed by woman’s daughter

A 73-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed multiple times by her sons and daughter-in-laws over land dispute in Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram, the police said on Tuesday. The incident happened on June 16 while a case was registered on Tuesday, the police said.

The complaint was lodged by victim Jayanti Devi’s daughter Mitlesh. Ms. Devi has four children — Mitlesh, Sachin, Omkar and Omdutt, the police said.

“Nearly two years ago, my brothers Omkar and Omdutt threw our mother out of the house as they wanted her share of the property. After this, I started living with my mother,” said Ms. Mitlesh.

She said there was always tension in the house due to the property issue and her two brothers would beat her over the same.

“Our mother’s cow went missing on June 16 and she went looking for it in the locality. During her search, she reached the lane where Omkar and Omdutt live. The two of them and their wives started abusing her,” Ms. Mitlesh complained.

The four allegedly stabbed Ms. Devi on the legs. Locals rushed to the spot after hearing her cries. Meanwhile, the four accused fled the spot, the police said.

Following this, the locals informed the victim’s family members, who rushed her to a nearby hospital. She is said to be critical, the police said. Ms. Devi’s family alleged that the police did not register their complaint for two days.

However, the police said the family approached them on Tuesday afternoon and a case has been registered against Omkar, Omdutt, Surekha and Anita. “We have formed teams to nab them,” said the police.
