4 Dera followers held for Anand Vihar station fire

Joint operation by Railway Protection Force, Delhi Police

Two bogies of Rewa Express parked in the yard at Anand Vihar railway station were torched on August 25. The four accused were arrested following a tip-off.

Four members of the Dera Sacha Sauda, who are accused of setting afire two empty coaches in the yard at Anand Vihar railway station, were arrested in a joint operation by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Delhi Police on Wednesday.

Vijay Malik, Bir Sungh, Kanhaiya Lal Mittal and Harjeet Singh are residents of east Delhi.

The police said they set the empty coaches on fire to avenge the conviction of Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Inflammable liquid

Two bogies of Rewa Express parked in the yard at Anand Vihar railway station were torched on August 25. During investigation, some bottles with inflammable liquid were found at the spot.

A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Railway Act was registered at GRP police station, Anand Vihar.

“We received a tip-off that the accused will meet in east Delhi. A police team managed to detain them. During interrogation, they said they are Dera followers and confessed to setting the fire,” said a senior police officer.

Cases of DTC buses and train coaches being set ablaze were reported from different parts of the city in August after the conviction of the Dera chief in two rape cases by a Special CBI court in Haryana’s Panchkula.
