Four persons, including a 25-year-old woman, have been arrested for allegedly robbing a 24-year-old gym instructor on the pretext of giving him a lift in Dwarka, the police said on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said the accused have been identified as Sunny (21), Sandeep Kumar (32), Neeraj (20) and their woman accomplice. All three men are involved in criminal cases, the police said.

In the early hours of January 19, the victim, identified as Kakrola resident Ashish Kumar, told the police that he took a lift to go to NSIT Sector 3 from Dwarka Mor around 12.15 a.m. in a vehicle where the four of them were present. However, instead of dropping him at the location, they took him to Rajapuri and robbed him of his mobile phone, wallet and documents at knifepoint. However, the woman gave him ₹20 to go home before throwing him off the car, he allegedly told police.

During investigation, the car with Haryana number plate was identified and police sought details from Transport Department and cab aggregators. “The owner of the said taxi was interrogated and he told that he had sold the taxi to a resident of Nihal Vihal. The team examined that person and on sustained interrogation, he disclosed that the taxi was being driven by his stepson Neeraj on the day of crime,” Mr. Alphonse said.

The four accused were subsequently arrested on Wednesday. During interrogation, the accused allegedly told police that they roam around late night with the woman in search of targets. “They used to offer lift and the presence of the female member helped them in gaining trust of the commuters,” the DCP said.
