The State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Jhuggi Jhopri and Unauthorised Colonies Cell, on Sunday, organised a seminar to discuss the betterment plans for the residents of jhuggi bastis and resettlement colonies of Delhi.
The seminar titled as ‘ Har Jhuggi Ko Samman Sankalp’ , which was presided by the Cell convener Umesh Verma, passed a resolution to dedicate 2018 for the cause.
“It is important to attend the day to day problems of jhuggi dwellers but more than that we have to work to get them the respect like other residents of the city. With this objective, the Cell will launch special programmes to ensure respect for them,” said Mr. Verma.

Votebank policy
Criticising the Aam Aadmi Party government, State BJP in-charge Shyam Jaju said, “The present Arvind Kejriwal government treats the jhuggi and resettlement colony residents as a votebank. The Kejriwal government has offered petty benefits to them but has denied them growth opportunities available to all others in Delhi.”
Speaking at the event, Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwary said, “BJP treats all sections of Delhi residents as citizens unlike several other parties which segregate people into vote banks. We believe that big development plans for Delhi can be envisioned by those sitting in corridors of power but the actual executers reside in the jhuggi & resettlement clusters. It is sad that successive State government’s since 1998 have denied benefits of development to the jhuggi residents.”

Mr. Tiwari also asked the Kejriwal government to extend the benefits of schemes like the Mudra Loan, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, Skill Development schemes and others, to the children and youth of the resettlement colonies.
