Officers supervising the Najeeb disappearance and the JNU sedition case are among the key names transferred in what is new police commissioner Amulya Patnaik’s first major rejig since taking over.
In the major reshuffle announced on Friday, the police assigned new responsibilities to the force's 18 top and middle-level officers, some of whom were promoted to special commissioner rank and given new assignments.
With some Special Commissioners retiring or going out of the force, there were fewer special CP rank officers when Mr. Patnaik took over, a crisis that was solved by the recent promotion of joint Commissioners

Among the new batch of Special Cps, Dependra Pathak, a 1990 batch IPS officer, was promoted as a special commissioner and assigned Operations unit while his batchmate Sanjay Singh of the same batch was assigned Armed Police (AP) wing in the same rank. Mr. Pathak wwas also acting as the spokesperson of Delhi Police besides heading the South Western Range. He is expected to retain his spokesperson responsibilities.
A 1989-batch IPS officer, Sanjay Baniwal, who was posted as special commissioner (Operations) has been transferred to Women Safety, Airport And Modernisation (WSA&M) unit. He was already looking after this unit as additional charge after special commissioner rank IPS Sundri Nanda went on central deputation. Baniwal’s batchmate R. S. Krishnia, who was looking after AP and Recruitment, has now been posted as special commissioner Headquarters and Recruitement.
Meanhwhile, after a long stint at the Crime Branch first as an additional commissioner and hen as a joint commissioner, Ravindra Yadav, who will now look after Eastern Range. Yadav will replace 1992-batch IPS officer Satish Golcha, who will now be looking after Southwestern Range while the new Crime Branch JCP would be Praveer Ranjan who is currently heading licensing. Another Crime Branch officer, the additional CP K.K. Vyas, was also transferred to licensing.

The disappearance case of JNU studnet Najeeb Ahmad was transferred to Crime Branch from South District but the Unit failed to make any progress.
A 1995-batch DANIPS officer Pramod Kushwah, who was acting as DCP Special Cell has been transferred to Second battalion of the armed police and was also supervising the probe into the JNU sedition case where the chargesheet has not been filed despite the Cell probing the case for the past one year.
Senior police officers, however, said that the transfers were routine and were not linked to JNU cases.
Among others, Robin Hibu, joint commissioner SPUWAC will now be joint commissioner Operations. He has been replaced by David Lalrinsanga, who was looking after Vigilance unit. Joint commissioner Rajesh Khurana of 1994-batch has been moved from Special Branch to Northern Range.
DANIPS officer Rajeev Ranjan, who was recently transferred to Economic Offences Wing (EOW) as a DCP from Headquarters, has been appointed as Staff Officer (SO) to the police chief.
