: In a fresh attack on the Aam Aadmi Party government, the BJP on Friday blamed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for sitting over the additional compensation granted by the Central government for victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Drawing the government’s attention, Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay and National Secretary R.P. Singh, on Friday, wrote to Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia demanding immediate release of the extra compensation as allowed by the NDA government.

“The Delhi government can claim for the funds for compensation to be given to the 1984 anti-Sikh riot victims from the Central funds vide the Union government’s order of December 16, 2014. But, Mr. Kejriwal has not disbursed a penny for compensation to claim money from the central fund,” said Mr. Upadhyay.

As per an order from the Ministry of Home Affairs, State governments have to disburse the additional compensation and claim it from the Government of India by submitting a utility certificate. “Most States have completed the disbursement, but the Delhi government has been sitting over the matter for the past six months. We urge the Delhi government to avoid politics of confrontation on this matter and release the compensation immediately on humanitarian grounds,” the BJP leaders said.
