Woman police constable commits suicide

G. Sathya, a police constable attached to the Fourth Battalion of the Tamil Nadu Special Police, Kuniamuthur, committed suicide at her room on Friday.

The Kuniamuthur police said that she hanged herself. The incident came to light when her colleagues went to her room to find out why she had not reported for the morning drill. The police, who have registered a case, suspect that the 22-year-old could have resorted to the extreme step as she could not marry her lover.

Worker dies

Dakshinamoorthy (38) of Vridachalam, working as a daily wager, fell into the Contour Canal, and died. He slipped from atop a concrete mixer machine into the canal, sustained head injuries and died at the hospital. Repair work has been going on to strengthen the canal.

Commits suicide

Sureshkumar (40), a driver from Ammankulam, committed suicide at his residence on Thursday. The Ramanathapuram police, who have registered a case in this connection, said that marital discord could be the reason behind the man resorting to the extreme step. He is survived by two children.

Youth arrested

The Kattoor police have arrested Raja Prabhu (27) of Valparai for his alleged involvement in stealing a parcel containing mobile phones from a bus that was bound for Sathyamangalam. The police said that the youth had stolen the parcel Ramnagar mobile phone dealer Anandan had sent to his agent in Sathyamangalam. The police have also recovered the parcel.

Lorries seized

The Madukkarai police have seized two lorries that were used for illegal transport of cattle to Kerala. The police said that they had also rescued 55 cows.

The police arrested drivers Kasilingam (36) of Namakkal and Senthil (30) of Sankagiri.

Chain snatched

Two motorcycle-borne youth snatched a chain weighing three sovereign from Lakshmi Kamaladevi of Kamakshi Nagar, Kovaipudur, when she was returning home on Friday.
