Woman head constable injured in accident

A woman head constable attached to the Annur Police Station sustained serious injuries in a two-wheeler accident near Mettupalayam on Monday.

According to police, the accident occurred around 6.45 p.m. on Monday, when S. Bakkiyam (43), a native of Madurai , was returning to her house in BSF quarters at Kittampalayam in Tirupur, on a scooter.

Her husband Shanmuga Velayutham is with the BSF in Rajasthan.

An unknown vehicle knocked Ms. Bakkiyam's two-wheeler from behind near Arivoli Nagar on Sirumugai Road and she was thrown off the scooter. Though Ms. Bakkiyam had worn a helmet, she suffered serious injuries.

She was initially taken to Government Hospital, Mettupalayam, by members of the public.

She was later shifted to a private hospital in Coimbatore city, where her condition was said to be critical.
