Woman escapes from custody in Coimbatore

Sheena (29), wife of Shanthosh of Thodupuzha in Kerala, an undertrial in police escort escaped from custody at the Gandhipuram bus stand on Monday night.

According to the police, Sheena was arrested by Ambalamula police in The Nilgiris in connection with a theft case and murder of 70-year-old Lakhsmi in 2010.

Police personnel Raghavan and Mangaleshwari of The Nilgiris Armed Reserve took the accused from the Central Prison in police escort and produced her before a court in Udhagamandalam.

After trial, the accused was brought by bus back to Coimbatore Central Prison. While getting down at Gandhipuram, making use of the rush, the accused is said to have escaped.

Race Course police have registered a case and a departmental inquiry is on.

House burgled

Miscreants gained entry into the house of Mohan at Varadarajapuram near Singanallur and decamped with 10 sovereigns of gold jewellery and five kg silver.

The burglary was noticed when the inmates returned home from Chennai.

Body found

The body of a man, aged around 30 years, was recovered from a pit filled with water near Pooluvapatti in Tirupur on Tuesday. Anupparpalayam police have registered a case.
