They urge Tangedco to reduce load shedding for industries

Though wind energy generation in the State was as high as 2,950 MW on Monday morning, several windmills faced load shedding.

According to K. Kasthurirangaian, president of the Indian Wind Power Association, evacuation of the wind energy generated in the State on Sunday was just 70 per cent. Most of the windmills faced load shedding for five hours or more. The winds were very good on Sunday and Monday and energy generation from the wind mills would be higher if there was no evacuation problem.

Mr. Kasthurirangaian appealed to the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) to reduce load shedding for industries so that there would be demand for the wind energy generated. The power cut for industries could be reduced and they should be permitted to consume the wind energy generated. This would avoid evacuation issues and also ensure power to the industries, he said.

According to data available on the website of the Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation, the wind energy generation on Sunday evening was 2,507 MW and it was 2,950 MW on Monday morning.

Of the total energy consumed, 66.27 million units were from wind energy. This was one of the highest.
