Environment Conservation Group along with Kumaraguru College of Technology placed water bowls and bug bungalows to attract bugs, bees, birds and beetles in Coimbatore on Saturday.

With the objective of helping bugs, bees, birds and beetles beat the summer heat, a non-governmental organisation here has joined hands with a city college to place water bowls and bug bungalows to improve the urban biodiversity.

According to a press release, students of Kumaraguru College of Technology along with Environment Conservation Group placed the water bowls, bug bungalows and bird nests in the college campus. The programme was inaugurated by R.S. Kumar, Principal, Kumaraguru College of Technology, who lauded the effort which he said will create more awareness.

As many as 30 water bowls were placed on Saturday with several more in the coming days. These would not only help the birds but provide opportunity for students to watch and learn about the native birds, said R. Mohammed Saleem, president of ECG. He expressed hope that more institutions, corporate firms and residential apartments will come forward to support the urban biodiversity.
