Vice-principal attacked near college

Four unidentified persons attacked the vice-principal of a private engineering college at MGR Nagar near Navakkarai during the late hours of Saturday. His driver was also injured in the assault.

K.G. Chavadi Police, who formed a special team to nab the accused, said that the vice-principal of an engineering college, G. Saranraj (26) of Perambalur, was staying in the college hostel. On Saturday night, while he was returning to the hostel in a mini van driven by N. Vellingiri (45), four unidentified persons blocked their way. Mistaking the gang for students, Saranraj got down from the vehicle and he was attacked, police sources said. The driver, who went to his assistance, was also assaulted.

Based on a complaint lodged by V. Azhagiri (31), the manager of the college, K.G. Chavadi Police registered a case. Police sources said that the attackers could not be identified by the victims as it was dark when the incident took place.
