UGD scheme will be implemented in Hosur Municipality soon, says Minister

An Under Ground Drainage (UGD) scheme will be implemented in Hosur Municipality soon, said K.P. Munusamy, Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development, here on Monday.

Inaugurating the work to lay pipelines for water supply scheme in Kaveripattinam at Rs. 68 lakh, Mr. Munusamy said that it was in Kaveripattinam that the protected drinking water scheme was first introduced.

He said that Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had allocated Rs. 750 crore for the Integrated Urban Development Programme this year.

With view to providing clean and healthy environment to people, the Chief Minister had decided to implement the UGD scheme in all the municipalities and town panchayats across the State.

During the first phase under the scheme, Rs. 256 crore had been allocated for 28 town panchayats. Of this, Rs. 23.56 crore would be spent for Kaveripattinam town panchayat. For the 22 municipalities in the State, a sum of Rs. 2,555 crore had been allocated under the scheme, of which Rs. 343 crore had been allocated for Hosur Municipality. The works would be implemented after floating tenders, the Minister added.

Works on the drinking water scheme in Kaveripattinam would be completed in six months, he said.

Mr. Munusamy also announced that the crematorium in Kaveripattinam would be improved at a cost of Rs. 90 lakh.

Collector C.N. Maheshwaran presided over the function. District Revenue Officer C. Prakasam, District Panchayat Chairman K. Ashok Kumar, and Executive Engineer, TWAD Board, N. Nagarajan, were present.
