Two held for robbery

A special team of Coimbatore City Police on Sunday arrested two men who robbed a Singanallur resident of ₹ 40.3 lakh and his car earlier this month.

The arrested have been identified as S. Kishore (27) from Gobichettipalayam and his friend M. Kalaiselvan (29) from Krishnaplayam Road in Erode.

According to police, Kishore was working as driver for A. Palanisamy (62), a resident of Sakkarai Chettiyar Colony near Singanallur, for the last six months.

Palanisamy had recently sold a property at Pollachi for which he had got ₹ 40,38,000 on September 4.

When reached home, Palanisamy stepped out of the car to open the gate.

As his employer went to open the gate, Kishore drove away the car with the money.

A special team was formed to track Kishore and his accomplice Kalaiselvan and they were traced to Karungalpalayam in Erode on Sunday.

Police said that the accused purchased jewellery and automobile spare parts using the stolen money. Police recovered ₹ 33,13,050, jewellery and automobile parts worth ₹ 2,68,000 and Palanisamy’s car from them.

The two men were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
