Tusker raids crops in Thondamuthur area

For the last few weeks, herds of elephants and a single tusker were seen moving around in Nade Goundenpudur, Kuppepalayam, Viraliyur, Karadimadai, Kuppanur, Narasipuram, Semmedu and Thondamuthur.

An elephant with a single tusk on Monday night created panic in Thondamuthur area by indulging in crop raid at farms.

For the last few weeks, herds of elephants and a single tusker were seen moving around in Nade Goundenpudur, Kuppepalayam, Viraliyur, Karadimadai, Kuppanur, Narasipuram, Semmedu and Thondamuthur.

On Monday night, the single tusker got into a farm in the area and destroyed the crop.

Efforts by the residents to chase the animal back into the forest by lighting country torches went in vain. The residents sought the deployment of kumkis positioned at Chadivayal.

Forest officials reached the spot and by beating drums and bursting crackers in a two-hour effort, managed to chase the single tusker back into the jungle.
