Hundreds of people from all walks of life, including members of political parties, paid tributes to freedom fighter Pollan at Modakurichi here on Wednesday.

He was the commander of Theeran Chinnamalai’s army from 1755 to 1805 and had fought many battles. He was also involved in gathering secrets from the British army and sent them to Theeran Chinnamalai. However, the British after finding out his role, shot him at Nallamangapalayam village in Arachalur block.

The villagers were demanding a memorial for Pollan and wanted a memorial day to be observed by the government.
