Those who came for a one-day trip suffered most without proper food

Most shops and businesses, as well as restaurants were shut in Udhagamandalam due to the bandh on Tuesday, causing much distress to tourists visiting the district.

With the summer tourist season having already started, the closure of shops and restaurants had a huge impact on visitors.

Many visitors, especially those on a one-day trip to the town, had to rely on biscuits and snacks to satiate their hunger.

C. Nallathambi from Tirunelveli, who was visiting Udhagamandalam with his friends, said that he had been unable to find a restaurant where he could eat, and had to rely on picking up snacks from a few tea stalls that remained open inside the town to get through the day. Pharmacies too remained shut throughout the day, with tourists once again being most affected as many were unable to pick up any medicines they require.

Most shops inside the Ooty Municipal Market had also downed shutters.

A hunger strike was organised at the ATC Bus Stand here by members of the AIADMK. There were no disruptions to public transport.
