Tirupur man held for fraud

The Central Crime Branch of the Coimbatore City Police have arrested 37-year-old S. Rangaraj of Tirupur on charges of duping a few persons to the tune of at least Rs. 20 crore.

According to sources, the CCB sleuths arrested Rangaraj when he went to Tirupur to call on a few relative of his. He had been in hiding in North India.

The police said that he had duped his partner Paramasivam of his lands and also a few others. He had obtained power of attorney for Paramasivam’s lands and had sold them without the latter’s knowledge. The police said further investigations were on and that people who wanted to lodge complaints against Rangaraj could do so with the CCB.

Shop burgled

Unidentified persons gained entry into a hardware shop on the Mill Road-N.H. Road Junction on Thursday night and decamped with Rs. 15,000 that was at the cash counter.

According to the R.S. Puram police, the incident happened around midnight, much after the owner A. Nazeer Hussain had closed the shop around 7 p.m. The crime came to light on Friday morning.

Woman robbed

An unidentified person assaulted Karamadai resident Bhadrammal, aged around 75, with aruvalmanai (Indian kitchen knife) and robbed her of jewellery weighing six sovereigns, police said.
