The employees of Tirupur Corporation office, belonging to Confederation of All Employees Unions, staged a dharna on the office premises while the emergency council meeting took place on Monday evening.

They resorted to the agitation alleging that S. R. Jayakumar, Councillor (Ward 39), misbehaved and used abusive words at S. Govindaprabhakar, a Junior Engineer (Civil), earlier on the day.

Mr. Govindaprabhakar told reporters that the Councillor had been frequently questioning the officials for carrying out even minute repair works like correcting pipeline leaks, among others, and wanted the officials to inform of such works in advance. At the council meeting, Mr. Jayakumar denied using of abusive words and said that he talked “very softly” with the officials.

According to the Councillor, the officials did not like him asking the reason for interruptions occurred in the water supply to R.V. Nagar in the Ward and hence, trying to malign him.

Mayor Visalakshi Appukutty calmed down the officials and the Councillor saying that the matter would be discussed separately and resolved.

During the meeting, A. Govindaraj (DMDK) demanded that the corporation should disconnect the water supply to those houses which were rented out to foreigners who come to the city without proper travel documents.
