The Hindu In School chess contest on Feb.10

The Hindu In School Chess Competition 2017 for Salem district players will be held at Holy Cross Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Ammapet, in the city on February 10.

The event will be held in four categories – under 9, 11, 13 and 15 years. Separate contest will be held for girls.

The entry fee for the registered players of Salem District Chess Association is ₹150 a participant. Those who have not registered their names with the Salem District Chess Association will have to play additional ₹100 at the venue. To register, log on to www.thehindu.com/thischess. Students who have completed the online registration should bring a printout of the confirmatory email received from

The Hindu along with their school identity card. Both these documents are mandatory at the registration counter. Spot registration is also allowed. Registration begins at 8.30 a.m.

The tournament will be played on Swiss League basis under the latest FIDE Rapid Rules. Players must bring their own chess sets and chess clocks, if available.

Winners will be awarded prizes and merit certificates. All participants will receive participation certificates. K. Shankar, Commissioner of Police, will give away the prizes at 5 p.m.

The event will be held under the aegis of Salem District Chess Association.
