‘Take steps to meet water requirement’

January 31, 2013 01:53 pm | Updated 01:53 pm IST - Tirupur:

The Corporation council meeting held here on Wednesday evening saw the councillors, across party lines, making an appeal to the Corporation administration to gear up in advance to meet the drinking water requirements in the coming summer season.

S. Murugasamy (AIADMK) reiterated the need for constituting a dedicated committee to exclusively look into the distribution of water to households so as to rectify the anomalies, if any, from time to time.

A few of the councillors raised allegations that the water supply had been going haywire on many occasions due to lack of adequate supply of diesel for the generators used to pump water.

“This has been happening because of certain corrupt practices in the system which, if not rectified, will end up having a cascading effect on the life of common man once the summer begins,” A. Govindaraj (ward 52) of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, pointed out.

Mayor Visalakshi Appukutty assured the councillors that every step would be taken by the administration periodically to streamline the water supply.

S.R. Jayakumar (ward 39) of AIADMK complained that many non-functioning street lights in his ward were not repaired for a long time.
