The suspicious death of a 24-year-old goldsmith Sameer of West Midnapur district, West Bengal, at R.S. Puram on December 21 under mysterious circumstances has turned out to be a case of murder.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Pravesh Kumar said that the case booked under section 174 (unnatural death) of the Code of Criminal Procedure was altered to section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code on Saturday following the arrest of the victim’s fellow worker and roommate Ashiq by the R.S. Puram Police on Saturday.
The police said that special teams are on the look out for Milon, who was said to be the prime accused in the case.

According to the police, the accused and the victim hail from the same place.
It was learnt that Milon, who owned a smithy in a nearby locality, helped the two others get a job at a smithy owned by Thirunavukarasu (38).
Police sources said that since Milon ran out of business, he and Ashiq planned to murder Sameer and rob nearly 250 grams of raw gold from the shop that was in the possession of the victim.

On the day of the incident, the three consumed alcohol and it was alleged that the accused mixed poison in the victim’s alcohol.
After Sameer became unconscious the two searched for the gold, but could not find it as the victim had handed it over to Thirunavukarasu. Meanwhile, Milon and Ashiq entered into a tussle. While Ashiq suffered minor injuries and was hospitalised, Milon escaped.
Escapes from hospitalAshiq was said to have escaped from the hospital after two-days which let to suspicion in the death of Sameer.
R.S. Puram Inspector S. Balamuralisundaram said that on Saturday they received a tip-off that Ashiq was at P.N. Pudur on the Marudhamalai Road and arrested him.
RecoveredThe police recovered a portion of the poison that he and Milon used to murder Sameer.
