Students demand withdrawal of GOs

Dalit students pursuing engineering course in private engineering colleges at the Collectorate on Monday demanding withdrawal of GOs.

Dalit students pursuing engineering degree under the management quota has urged the government to withdraw the Government Orders 50 and 51 resulting in reduction of quantum of education scholarship extended to them. Due to the GO, lakhs of students availing scholarship are struggling to pay the difference amount between the scholarship and the actual fees determined by the government for students admitted under management quota, according to office-bearers of Ambedkar Kalvi Centenary.

Demand for house site patta

Residents belonging to Arunthathiyar community at Pappampatti in Sulur taluk demanded the District Collector to issue free house site patta, as they were living in the land categorised as Panchami land. The residents were led by Kovai Maniarasu, president of Arunthathiyar Munnetra Kazhagam.

Farmers submit petition

Members of the Vivasayigal Sangam urged the State Government to arrange training programme for the farmers to produce by-products using ‘neera’ through the Coconut Development Board. To protect farmers’ interest, coconut oil should be distributed at all the PDS outlets, District President of the Tamilnadu Vivasayigal Sangam told reporters here on Monday.

Later, a group of farmers submitted petition to the District Collector at the grievances redress meeting.
