Slew of measures for senior citizens, differently abled

The new battery car offers easy and comfortable navigation for senior citizens and differently abled at the Coimbatore Railway Junction.

In an effort to make the Coimbatore Railway Junction friendly to senior citizens, differently abled and ailing passengers, a slew of facilities are coming up.

To begin with, a battery car that was in operation till recently, has been replaced after the previous one developed technical snag.

The battery car, costing nearly ₹ 4 lakh, is now in operation and one more battery car will be added very shortly, officials said.

To ensure that senior citizens, differently abled and ailing passengers comfortably reach the station, a ramp is being constructed.

Ramp

The ramp is from the concourse near the vintage NMR engine near the parking area and the ramp take the battery car right up to the platforms.

Once completed, passengers on getting down from their vehicle could board the battery car near the parking area and easily reach the platforms.

Similarly, the elevator is already functional to reach platforms 3 and 4 and work for establishing the elevator for platforms 1 and 2 has begun and it will be over in three months, officials added.

In addition, all the four escalators have now been manned and during peak hours the passengers would be at ease to use the escalators, officials said.
