SIH -2019 grand finale to see most innovative students from across the country

Two-day sessions begin at KCT and Krishna College; PM to address the students today

The third edition of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2019, organised by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), All India Council for Technical Education, Doordarshan and Persistent systems began at Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology and Kumaraguru College of Technology, the two nodal centres chosen among the 48 nodal centres in the country, on Saturday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the students through a video conference on Sunday.

SIH is the world’s largest 36-hour non-stop digital product building competition. This year’s Smart India Hackathon is focused on software development.

The problem statements posted by 95 industries and 18 government ministries in the fields of smart communication, healthcare, biomedical devices, agriculture, rural development, smart vehicles, food technology, robotics, drones, waste management, clean water, renewable energy, security and surveillance will be worked on by 1,373 teams participating in the grand finale of the Smart India Hackathon.

Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology has partnered with Apollo Hospitals, India Health Link Pvt. Ltd, TVS motors and Greefi Technologies for the hackathon and the problems posted by these organisations are being solved by 28 teams across the county.

The chief guests for the valediction on Sunday at SKCET will be Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development and Implementation of special programme S.P.Velumani.

On Saturday, the inaugural had the participation of Prof. Alok Prakash Mittal, Member Secretary, AICTE, Dharmaraj Chintalwar, Nodal Officer, AICTE and S.Siddhartha, CEO & Founder Intain Fintech Pvt Ltd.

At Kumaraguru College of Technology, 27 teams are participating from Rajasthan, Punjab, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. The problem statements were sourced from DI Patna MSME, Human welfare association – Varanasi and Shantha Sanofi.

Sandeep Tyagi, Director – Human Resources, Samsung Electronics was the chief guest.

Joining the event via live stream, Minister for Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar said that engineering without experimenting is not the right way to learn and only practical applications can help individuals grow and develop cognitive skills.

The SIH will enhance the engineering knowledge with experiments. He also informed that the hardware edition of SIH will be conducted in June.

The AICTE Chairperson, Anil Sahasrabudhe, the Secratary of MHRD, R.Subrahmanyam who also joined the event through live stream congratulated the students who have been short-listed and motivated them to become innovators.
