Short film on road accidents

The Transport Department – Coimbatore Circle has come up with a short film on CD to generate awareness on road safety.

The 30-minute film highlights the lurking dangers on the roads and tips to turn roads safer.

Clippings show the dangerous violations resorted to by road users especially over loading, foot board travel, embarking and alighting from running buses, allowing unskilled people to drive the vehicle and crossing roads at undesignated places without any caution.

The film titled ‘Auyusu Nooru' meaning 100 years of life is brought out by a team led by Deputy Transport Commissioner – Coimbatore Circle K.N. Uthayanun and Regional Transport Officers S. Munusamy, N. Palanivelu and P. Mani.

The film with two story capsules is directed by Uyir Vellaiyan and story and screen play is by none other than a Motor Vehicle Inspector of Coimbatore South Regional Transport office M. Raju.

Going one step further, Mr.Raju has also played role of a motorist who suffers head injury because of not wearing a helmet and that too because of drunken two-wheeler riders.

Mr.Raju's daughter in real life has adorned the role on the reels as well and waits for her father to pick her up back from school. But, the father on a two-wheeler without a helmet meets with an accident and ends up at the hospital with a head injury.

In another story, four youth on two motor cycles resort to use of cellular phones, rash and negligent driving and two of them without helmets end up losing their life on the road.

District Collector and Regional Transport Authority M. Karunagaran said that steps would be taken to shorten the length of the film so as to screen them in cinema theatres to reach out to more people.
