As the rainwater mixed with sewage stagnating near the Gorimedu junction in Salem is posing health risks to residents, they urged authorities to take steps to clean the area.
Breeding ground
The stagnant sewage near the road leading to Mullai Garden has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Most of the drains in the area are clogged and even the silt removed from the drains are found left next to the drains on Thursday morning.

The residents complained that this had been the condition for the past few rain and despite repeated complaints, the panchayat authorities had not taken any action.
One of the residents said that the rainwater was stagnating in the lane as the drains were clogged and there was no channel for the water to run off.
Murugan, who works at a workshop, said, “when there is rain, sewage overflows onto the road and stagnates, posing health risks. We have been informing the civic authorities, but no action has been taken.”
