‘Set up power loom park in Somanur’

Hindu Munnani State general secretary C. Subramaniam said the Munnani would be deliberating a series of demands for the welfare of the Hindu community and for the development of western region in Tamil Nadu, in the conference planned at Karumathampatti on January 26.

“Members of the Munnani will be extending support in the Lok Sabha elections only to the political party/alliance that gives an assurance to fulfil the said demands. If more than one party was ready to extend solidarity, we will weigh the seriousness of the offers before taking decision on the support,” he told reporters here on Thursday.

On the charter of demands prepared by the Munnani, he said that the Government machinery should set up a power loom park and a market for weavers to sell fabric, both in Somanur, a cluster which is buzzing with weaving activities.

He said that special education assistances/packages need to be given to students from Hindu community similar to the ones given to Christians and Muslims.

The Munnani wanted the control of the Hindu temples in the State taken away from the Government and slaughtering of the cattle to be banned in the country.

He said that the political parties, despite giving promises during elections, were dragging the implementation of ‘Athikadavu-Avinashi Flood Flow Canal Scheme’ though the project was conceived many decades ago.
