Though the school department had directed the schools to conduct quarterly examination as per schedule on Thursday, the schools managements, parents and teachers appeared confused as the public transport facilities were likely to be affected by the call for Bharat bandh.
The Directorate of School Education, Chennai, which had initially announced a holiday for schools asking them to postpone the exams, later clarified that the exams should be conducted on Thursday as per schedule.
President of Tamil Nadu Private Schools Association R. Visalakshi said that the schools were forced to conduct the exams though many students may not be able to turn up due to lack of transport facilities.

“Usually even if the schools are functioning on a bandh day, we postpone the exams or conduct separate tests for those who missed it. But, this time we were asked to follow common question paper for quarterly examination for Standard X and XII. So, the examinations cannot be postponed.”
President of Coimbatore Sahodaya Schools Complex and Principal of Angappa Senior Secondary School K. Navamani, said, “All students may not be able to come to school and we did not want them to miss the examination. So, we have postponed the examination scheduled.”
A few parents also said that they were not happy to sent children to school.

President of Rukmani Kannan Vidyalaya Higher Secondary School Parents’ Association M. Kamarudden said, “The examination could be postponed. Many parents will find it difficult to take their children to school if public transportation is disturbed.”
