Rural police stations to set up mini libraries

All the police stations in Coimbatore district (rural) will have mini library in a few days with Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development S.P. Velumani inaugurating the project on Friday.

Books purchased with the support of the 36 Rotary clubs of Coimbatore will be despatched to all the police stations in a few days, said senior officials. The Rotary clubs have been entrusted with the work of setting up mini library in police stations in coming under their limits.

The idea of rural police is to have library in 36 police stations, three women police stations and three traffic wing stations.

According to Superintendent of Police (Rural) Pa. Moorthy, whose brainchild is the mini library project, the provision of library at police stations will be a way of promoting reading habit among police personnel as well as among visitors.

He added that Inspector General (West Zone) of police A. Pari and Deputy Inspector General of police (Coimbatore range) G. Karthikeyan extended all support for the project.

K. Kavidasan, Poet and director of Roots Group of Companies, was also present at the inauguration of mini library project.

Office bearers of Rotary S. Rajasekhar, Chella K. Raghavendran and R.S. Maruti took part in the inauguration.
