Rotary conducts helmet awareness programme

The Rotary Club of Coimbatore Downtown joined hands with the City Police to organise a helmet awareness programme in the city on Sunday.

According to a press release, around 75 persons took out a motorcycle rally that was flagged off near the Government Women’s Polytechnic College by P. Vijayaragavan, president, Rotary Club of Coimbatore Downtown. The directors of Rotary, P. S. Prakash and G.M. Aadhi Maruthi, besides Lone Wolf Bikers Group took part. Officials from the Race Course Police Station also participated.

Handbills distributed

The rally went on for a distance of 2.5 km. The members carried awareness banners and distributed handbills on helmet awareness. In a recent judgement, the Madras High Court made it mandatory for two-wheel riders as well those on the pillion to wear helmets.

Short film

Selvapuram Police organised a helmet awareness campaign by screening a short film directed by a police constable at North Housing Unit, Sivalaya Junction and IUDP Colony Junction, recently. The Assistant Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Coimbatore South, G.S. Anitha inaugurated the campaign. Selvapuram Inspector R. Srinivasalu said that the campaign was organised with the help of a couple of private schools.
