Piles of garbage, rubble, sand and other construction materials can be seen at almost every part of the Coimbatore Collectorate, a place frequented by thousands of people every day.
This did not befit the most important public institution in the city, according to the Aam Aadmi Party, which submitted a petition to the district administration during the weekly public grievances redress meeting on Monday at the Collectorate, seeking a solution to the problem.
A delegation led by its district secretary S. Mohamed Rafi handed over a catalogue containing pictures of garbage inside the Collectorate to District Revenue Officer K. Karpagam, who was officiating the meeting.

Mr. Rafi said that even the sanitation park on the premises was filled with garbage and had not been cleaned for quite some time.
The Collectorate, he said, lacked adequate number of dustbins, which was resulting in garbage getting thrown all around. The party called for replacing the banners and posters of various associations and political parties inside the Collectorate with signboards directing the public to various departments and cells.
