Residents of Sakthi Nagar, Peelamedu, sat in front of the Coimbatore Corporation’s East Zone office on Monday in protest against the civic body’s failure to remove encroachments in the area.

The residents alleged that the civic body has not removed the encroachment that was on a path chosen for constructing storm water drain in the area.

While surveying the area in Ward 58, the surveyors had ignored the encroachment on sites 28, 29, and 29A.

They had brought the matter to the notice of the Councillor, Commissioner, and engineers concerned but not action seemed to have been taken.

The inaction seemed to convey that the civic body was more interested in the welfare of an individual at the cost of public interest.

The residents sought immediate action and wanted the storm water drain to be constructed without any deviation.

Following officials’ intervention, the residents gave up their protest.
