The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) staged demonstration in Tirupur city and Udumalpet on Tuesday demanding scrapping of Electronic Voting Machine (EVMs) and re-introduction of old ballot box system.
The party’s state vice-president, C. Vadivel Gounder, said that the EVMs could be tampered easily and some countries had gone back to ballot boxes.
In Coimbatore, around 60 PMK cadre were held for staging the demonstration.

They were taken into custody and released later in the day.
In Salem, the PMK cadre staged a demonstration outside the Head Post Office near Old Bus Stand.
Led by its State Deputy Secretary and former MLA M. Karthi, they demanded the Election Commission of India to re-introduce the old ballot box system from next elections.

In Erode, the leaders of PMK staged a demonstration in front of the Head Post Office here.
The party’s State Deputy General Secretary, K.S. Mahendran, who presided over the demonstration, said India has to establish its democratic credentials by abandoning EVMs taking the cue from countries such as United States, Germany and England that have reposed their faith in paper ballot system to eliminate scope for manipulation.
