Railway police arrest man on robbery charge

The Railway Police here have arrested a 30-year-old person on charges of robbery.

According to the police, R. Veerabadran, who was working in the railway parcel office, was accosted by a man with a knife on Thursday afternoon and was forced to hand over his wallet, which contained Rs. 2,200.

Based on the information provided by Veerabadran, Railway police began to investigate and found that the description matched one S. Senthil Kumar, 30, of Town Hall. They began to search for him and arrested him on the late hours of Thursday. Around Rs. 2,000 was recovered from him. The Railway Police have registered a case.

Taken into custody

In another case, the Railway Police arrested a 22-year-old man on charges of stealing cash and jewellery from a rail passenger.

According to sources here, Ponnulakshmi, 26, had lost her handbag containing a mobile phone, 3.5 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs. 14,000 in cash while travelling in the Coimbatore-Nagercoil Express on April 5.

The police began to track her cell phone, which was found to be in the possession of Selvaraj, 22, a resident of Thennampalayam on Tirupur-Palladum road, who was arrested on Friday.
