The railway administration has planned to construct a passenger terminal in Coimbatore, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Passenger Amenities Chalavadi T. Narayanaswamy has said.
He was here on Saturday as part of an inspection tour to study passenger amenities in Tamil Nadu and neighbouring states.
Mr. Narayanaswamy told reporters in response to a question that to handle the increased passenger movement, the railway administration had planned the terminal but the place was yet to be decided.

The question was about a few trains not stopping at North Coimbatore, Peelamedu and other stations in and around the city.
The stoppage would also depend on passenger patronage at those places, he said and added that the same would also hold good for the counters. Only if the patronage was good would the railway administration think about opening new ticket counters. At present, the patronage at the counters on the Good Shed Road entrance was not as good.
To further improve the parking facilities, the railway administration was taking some measures.

Officials had told him that they were trying to acquire or take on lease the lands available in the vicinity to improve the parking space. Likewise, the officials were also working with the Coimbatore City Police to introduce a pre-paid taxi system.
Mr. Narayanaswamy went around the junction inspecting platform, eateries, and shops and also interacting with passengers and officials.
He said Coimbatore was one of the better maintained junctions he had seen.
