Quality and quantity of innovation should improve. The former chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation K. Kasturirangan said this after inaugurating the three-day international conference on Innovative Research in Engineering and Technology at Park College of Engineering and Technology here on Thursday.

The member of the Planning Commission of India said that frugal innovation makes the system sustainable and such research areas should not be neglected. Innovations that solve real world problems will be the future of research in India. “Our country should focus on disruptive innovations.” He was of the opinion that 70 per cent of India’s GDP will be from emerging markets.

Stating that the country needed development he added that the government is moving in the right direction. Developing a country like India requires longer time – given the complexity and magnitude of problems faced by the country.

About the controversial land acquisition bill, he said that the Centre is making all efforts to explain the bill to people at the grassroots level onwards.

Development of urban and rural areas is a key factor to the nation’s development.

It requires resources such as water, power and land for manufacturing to create jobs for millions of unemployed youth.
