Public grievances meeting: More time sought to vacate quarters

State Government employees residing at the government quarters near Race Course here have urged the district administration to grant them more time to vacate the quarters.

The Tamil Nadu Government Employees Residential Welfare Association submitted a petition to District Collector Archana Patnaik during the public grievances redress day meeting held at the Coimbatore Collectorate on Monday.

The employees said that they had been residing in these quarters for more than three decades. Nearly 180 houses in the area have been demolished in the last three years. There were plans to tear down the remaining 200 too.

Government officials, escorted by police personnel, came to the place on July 3, and served notices on residents to vacate the quarters.

The residents said that they need at least a couple of years’ time. They should be allotted new quarters too.

Identity cards

A group of transgenders in the city have urged the district administration to provide them identity cards immediately. Amuthasurabhi Transgender Welfare Association, in a petition, said that identity cards of welfare board were vital to get various concessions given by the State Government.

Tamil Nadu in 2008 became the first State to set up a transgender welfare board.

Illegal borewells The Aam Aadmi Party asked the district administration to act against private firms that were sinking borewells without permission to sell water. In a petition, the party’s district secretary Mohammed Rafi said that private firms were selling the water at exorbitant rates. He submitted a list of firms suspected of selling water thus, and asked officials to impose a ban on it.
