Residents of Nethajipuram here have urged the district administration to take steps to complete the construction works of the bridge in the locality immediately.

Nethajipuram Residents Welfare Association president G. Thangaraja, in a petition, said that the works that began on January 2, 2013 was scheduled to be over before this July. The works had resulted in the closure of Irugur-Peelamedu Railway Gate No: 4 resulting in frequent traffic jams.

A section of lorry owners in Irugur here have urged the district administration to ensure that only local lorry owners were permitted to carry goods to the Irugur Good Shed.

In a petition, they said that members of the Irugur Lorry Owners and Railway Goods Movers Association have been transporting goods to the Irugur Good Shed for years. They had work only for 10 to 12 days in a month with the work being allotted on a ‘turn basis.’ More than 200 families were dependent on this work.

The association claimed that in recent months, outsiders too were seeking work. This could affect their livelihood, they said.
