The Hospital Management System, which was the predecessor of HMIS, was first implemented in 2004 at CMCH, which was a pioneer in the use of digital X-rays in patient treatment.

The hospital had been allotted 250 new computers under this Information Technology project to computerise patient records. The infrastructure works for the HMIS began in August for computerisation of patient records, sources added.

Under this, the entire process of treating a patient, right from issue of out-patient slips, prescriptions issue and follow-up treatment would be computerised and is to become operational at CMCH by December 25.

Sources said that the umbrella project was underway in all the 20 Government Hospitals and 25 allied health institutions that come under the Department of Medical Education.
