Coimbatore District (Rural) Police on Saturday checked promptness of police stations in responding to alerts on accidents and crimes when Superintendent of Police assigned a top police official to make calls to five stations as common man.
While policemen on duty at two stations responded well and officers reacted quickly, three other stations showed indifferent approach.
Based on a direction from Inspector General of police (West Zone) A. Pari, Coimbatore rural S.P. Pa. Moorthy on Saturday held a meeting of Deputy Superintendents of Police and inspectors whose cellphones were kept aside for a brief period. P. Chandramohan, Additional Superintendent of police (Prohibition Enforcement Wing), was assigned to make calls to Pollachi East, Kottur, Thondamuthur, Sulur and Mettupalayam police stations.

Duty officers at Pollachi East and Kottur police stations responded to calls related to theft and abduction with at most promptness.
While Thondamuthur police station did not respond well to an alert on gambling, the Sulur police station failed to respond to an alert on a major accident.
The policeman who attended call at Mettupalayam police station reportedly wanted the complainant to come in person to the station to consider the complaint.

Mr. Moorthy rewarded the police team attached to Pollachi East and Kottur police stations for timely response shown to the alerts.
He has issued stringent warning to officers at Thondamuthur, Sulur and Mettupalayam police stations for their inactive approach.
