Prison Bazaar comes up at Coimbatore Central Prison

The bazaar will offer products such as vegetables and fruits grown using organic fertilizers

The Prison Bazaar of the Coimbatore Central Prison was inaugurated on the exhibition grounds here on Monday. It will market products made by inmates of the central prison.

According to a press release, the initiative was taken up following instructions from J.K. Tripathy, Additional Director-General of Police (Prisons). The bazaar will offer products such as vegetables and fruits that are grown using organic fertilizers, besides sweets, breads, variety rice and other food items. It will remain open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

It was thrown open in the presence of the Adheennam of Kamatchipuram Mutt, P. Govindarajan, Deputy Inspector General of Prisons, Coimbatore Range, and K. Anandan, Superintendent of Prisons, Coimbatore.

This project is part of a State-wide initiative to open bazaars at all central prisons. The State has central prisons in Chennai, Salem, Tiruchi, Cuddalore, Madurai, Vellore, Palayamkottai and Coimbatore

The prison officials on Monday planted 66 trees at the Open Air Jail in Singanallur to mark the 66th birthday of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
